u · ni · ty n., 1. Oneness; combining with others to form a greater whole.

The TEVA Spirit of Unity Tour ’99 goal is to create an up-lifting, enlightening and entertaining experience for audiences and the communities it visits. It will share the joys of Reggae music, the enticing food of the Caribbean, and educate Americans about the island of Barbados.

The TEVA Spirit of Unity Tour ’99 Unity Stage will feature the world’s most famous Reggae bands including England’s Steel Pulse and Maxi Priest, Jamaica’s most beloved band Third World, Shaggy, Monifah and Culture, and the newest young sensation from New York, Ras Shiloh. The summer tour will include concert dates in the United States, Japan, Australia and the Pacific Rim.

The Barbados Stage, sponsored by the island of Barbados, will feature Barbados’ greatest stars including David Kirton, Arturo Tappin, and Biggie Irie. Barbados is using the tour in general and the stage in particular as a way to promote tourism and Bajan culture. It marks the most extensive tourism promotion the island has ever done via music, food and culture.

Between the Unity and Barbados Stages, there will be constant music from when the doors open at 1:30 p.m. until the concert’s conclusion at 8:00 p.m.

These two stages will be vibrant additions to the Spirit of Unity Village, which will host a hemp exhibit, island cuisine, CD one-stop, and Barbados booth which conveys the elements of the beautiful Bajan lifestyle, their culture, food and music. The hemp exhibition will demonstrate the many uses and solutions of hemp. The food vendors will sell island cuisine including jerk chicken, exotic curries, patties and plantains. The traveling CD store will have for sale many of the latest Reggae and World Music CD’s not normally available for sale in the U.S.

The Spirit of Unity Cultural Display Booth will be an environmental, educational, interactive display that will inform the audience of the most advanced, sustainable alternatives to protect the environment. These will include renewable energy sources, sustainable agricultural practices, advances in modern forestry practices and recycling. The exhibition will educate audiences as to the principles and availability of non-polluting, healthy alternatives for living on this planet.

The Spirit of Unity Tour has confirmed the following sponsors: TEVA Sports Sandals, Air Jamaica, PARAS Group, Reggae Nucleus Magazine, Celestial Travel, and the Island of Barbados.
